This is a sensitive topic
at the moment. :-)
I was supposed to qualify
for Comrades 2000, but didn't. So I won't be doing what I put so much
effort into. It's my own fault cause I was lazy when it came to training.
In fact, I did not run from
about mid-March to beginning June. On 7 June I ran 4km and it was like
starting from scratch. To think I was able to run a marathon (42.2km)!
:-(
Running History
I started running in about
1992, the year after I finished high-school. I joined Run/Walk for Life
(near St. Georges Park) in Port Elizabeth. Initially I used to walk
and then later decided to try running. Wow, that was cool. :-)
I stopped running in 1994
I think. I have no idea why I stopped. I think I just got tired of it
and it became to much of an effort to do it. (No, don't say lazy) :-)
After 5 years in 1999 I pulled
out the old running shoes and started entering races again. Well there's
no stopping now. I love it too much
Current Training
Well I was training for Comrades
2000. I ran my qualifying race on 5 March at the Vaal. But I missed
the qualifying time by 4 minutes. Since then I haven't done much training.
And now it's too late to put any training into trying to qualify again.
On 1 May is the last race on which to qualify. There's always next year.
I used to train in the morning.
I suppose that's one of the reasons my training stopped. Cause it's
so dark in the morning now that it's becoming winter.
Comrades 2000
This year Comrades is an
up run, from Durban to Pietermaritzburg. The distance is 87km. The race
takes place on Friday, 16 June 2000. Click here
to visit the official Comrades web site. Pity I won't be participating.
But next year!!! :-)
